Live Free, But Don’t Use It As A Cover Up For Evil

07 May

1 Peter 2:16 – 16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.

It’s a topic that I hit on quite a bit, because I think it’s a problem with the church in America.  America has turned to the popular grace message, with no knowledge of what the rest of the Word or even the New Testament has to say on other issues.

If we’re teaching on grace and nothing more is being heard, it becomes a license to do whatever you want.  The message that is supposed to immediately follow grace is repentance.  This message isn’t as popular with the church as a whole in America.  Repentance is about turning away from sin.  For many that becomes a legalistic argument, but is it?  No.

As human’s we have a defense mechanism that comes into play when we feel like we are being scrutinized.  There is a book that lovingly scrutinizes our lives.  I believe that is why most people don’t want to read it or hear about it.  However, they are the Word’s of life.

If you care about your Lord, know His Word.  Once you know His Word, you will know that much is expected in our walk.  There has been a church age raised where nothing has been taught accept for forgiveness.  That’s the first step of what should be a lifelong walk.

When you teach on grace and nothing more, you are teaching on a free license to sin.  The scripture above along with many others remind us that grace is the gift of life, but it’s not there to just abuse.  There is one that exists that loves it when Christians and Pagans can’t be told apart by their actions.  His name is Satan.

The Prize

04 May

1 Corinthians 9:24- 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

1 Corinthians 9:27 – 27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Philippians 3:14 – 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 2:18 – 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions.

I think we forget about the prize.  We’re taught that salvation is the only prize and it’s free and there is nothing you can do to earn it.  That’s true, salvation is a free gift and there is nothing you can do to earn it.  However, that’s not the prize Paul’s referring to.  The Lord wants to reward each and every one of us based on how much love we show him.

We need to run the race as hold onto our reward.  The last verse below refers to being saved but losing the reward.

1 Corinthians 3:10-15 – 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

If we deny our own selfish wants and serve God based on His Word and Truth, we are running the race correctly.  Then we can work in the area that He has called us.

The Lord Takes Care Of Those Who Choose Right

03 May

Psalm 37:23-26 – 23 If the LORD delights in a man’s way,
he makes his steps firm;
24 though he stumble, he will not fall,
for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
26 They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be blessed.

The whole 37th Psalm reminds us that the wicked will only prosper for a season, but in the end it’s bad news.  We are also reminded that even though it may seem the evil are in control, God loves and looks after those who love Him and look to Him and His ways.  Stay the course.

We Need To Take Being An Heir Seriously

02 May

Galatians 4:1-7 –  1 What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2 He is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3 So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. 4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. 6 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

If we as believers would only take it seriously.  We have a God who has opened up to allow us to be heirs and how are we handling it?  As a whole, not serious at all.  Literally we need to thank God that there are those who are listening to the commission or no one would be getting the Truth or a chance to be saved.  Today is a day where we get the chance to serve our God and the Lord Jesus.  It’s not the Pastor’s job to do your part in the Kingdom.  Please your true Father and try to reach others for Him.

Quote – H G Wells on Jesus

01 May

I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.
H.G. Wells

We tell our whole timeline by Before Christ (BC) and After Death (AD).  The Bible is the most printed book in history.  God and Jesus are not only the center of history, but the center of the universe as they are the Creator’s of it.

What’s One Of The Signs Of The Last Days?

30 Apr

2 Peter 3:4 – 3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

If you’ve read much of my blog you’ll remember that I have written many times that there would be a great falling away from the true faith.  Those are believers that are doing that, not unbelievers.  This post is to point out the same issue regarding believers.

Peter is stating that scoffers will come in the last days mocking the idea that Christ is going to return.  They have a form of taunting in them.  They will say “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?”  Peter exposes their hearts though.  He indicates it’s because they are following their own evil desires.  Once again, SELF!

Seeing any of this today?

Here is my analogy.  A huge group of people are down in a valley partying it up.  They are surrounded by high hills all around them.  The hills easily climbable but the hike will take awhile and some work.  There are those who choose to climb the hills and “wow” they see signs of things that they have only heard about coming off in the distance.  They go back to the crowd and tell them what they saw.  A few find it fascinating and head for the hills.  They go up and see even more than the previous group and come down to tell others.

This keeps happening and what they see in the distance once they get up to the top of the hill just keeps getting closer.  However, many that have made the hike have gotten older and have died.  Others that come back to tells those partying in the valley about how they are seeing even more are not finding too many that are interested in disrupting their valley party.

This story is just an analogy in regarding that people refuse to look for the signs or even take any time to learn what they may be.  It isn’t going into the consequences of a heart that doesn’t want to look for or seek the Lord.

There are two things around us in these last days that are easily seen by a mere time consuming but simple study.  One, evolution is very flawed and for brilliant minds of scientist to put their complete faith in it reveals the true definition of “blind faith.”  Second if you study what the signs are for Christ’s Second Coming, you couldn’t come to any other conclusion except that it is right at the door.

So where is the problem with believers and the missteps?

If a believer doesn’t know the Word of God they are ripe for picking by the evil one.  Satan and his demons hang out in the darkness.  Jesus wants us in the sheep pen where he can guard us.  However, many believers stubbornly refuse to stay corralled in the pen.

A majority of Christians today don’t know the difference between Light and darkness.  They don’t know the difference between Truth and a lie.  It’s because they don’t know the Word of God.

To reach others we need to know the Word.  To protect our hearts and souls we need to know the Word.  There is a war going on for man’s heart and soul.  Are you going be Switzerland and be neutral?  God doesn’t want neutral.  He wants you to choose His side.

The signs are all around us and we are nearing the time Jesus is going to take His church and the group of the scoffers is getting bigger every day.

A Thought On Our Common Family Tree

27 Apr

Luke 3:23-38 – 23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph,
the son of Heli, 24 the son of Matthat,
the son of Levi, the son of Melki,
the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,
25 the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos,
the son of Nahum, the son of Esli,
the son of Naggai, 26 the son of Maath,
the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein,
the son of Josech, the son of Joda,
27 the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa,
the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel,
the son of Neri, 28 the son of Melki,
the son of Addi, the son of Cosam,
the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,
29 the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer,
the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat,
the son of Levi, 30 the son of Simeon,
the son of Judah, the son of Joseph,
the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,
31 the son of Melea, the son of Menna,
the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan,
the son of David, 32 the son of Jesse,
the son of Obed, the son of Boaz,
the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,
33 the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram,
the son of Hezron, the son of Perez,
the son of Judah, 34 the son of Jacob,
the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham,
the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu,
the son of Peleg, the son of Eber,
the son of Shelah, 36 the son of Cainan,
the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem,

the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch,
the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel,
the son of Kenan, 38 the son of Enosh,
the son of Seth, the son of Adam,
the son of God.

We are all directly related in lineage to the above underlined individuals.  They be a many a great grandfather to all of us.  Sometimes when you read about them in history from so long ago that gets lost in the shuffle.

Another interesting thought:  Is it really more feasible to think we came from lightning striking ooze rather than one set of created humans that multiplied?  What created the lightning?  What created the lifeless ooze?

Well if we believe the Bible, then we all are related to Adam and Eve.  It can be hard to believe we are all related to each other, but we are.

We Must Change From Our Old Nature

25 Apr

Ephesians 2:1-5 – 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

When we receive grace, we become saved and a child of God.  We have to make every effort to now live like it.  It’s a process and old habits can be hard to break, but we have to strive to live holy for our Lord.  The biggest confusing detriment the church has done with the unsaved is their example.  Most people can’t the difference between someone who serves Jesus and someone who doesn’t.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

The reason we need to turn away from sin is it separated us from God.  God hates sin.  Let’s try to separate ourselves from what God hates and focus on doing things He loves.  Number one would be obedience to His Word.

Psalm 19:7-11

24 Apr

Psalm 19:7-11 – 7 The law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
and altogether righteous.
10 They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the comb.
11 By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

One’s life is usually a reflection of either doing their own thing or seeking the Lord.   I remember trying to do many things my own way.  I see people all around me doing it now.  Disastrous.  The law of the Lord is not just a philosophy, it’s a smooth fulfilling path.  The other leads to problems and finishes with death.

God’s Way

23 Apr

Titus 3:4-7 – 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

A reminder for us when we try to get on our high horse, there is nothing righteous about us on our own.  We can’t even be righteous on our own.  Only One can bring the righteousness to us and that is our loving Lord who died in our place for our sins if we will choose it.

God’s way!  We can only get back to God, God’s way.  So many people want to lower or change the standard because they don’t want to disrespect them or hurt their feelings.  It’s God’s way or the wrong way.  We don’t vote, haggle, or debate on different ways to God.  The reason people end up in destruction is they won’t look to the Lord for the way.  God’s way!

How are those portrayed that try to convince you there are other ways?

John 10:1- 1 “I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.

Jesus is the Shepherd and He will meet us at the gate.

John 10:2- 2 The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep.

Why is Jesus the only way?  Because God made the way and He made it that way.

John 14:6 – 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

The perfect sacrificial Lamb whose blood is sufficient to cover our sins is the reason we may enter into Heaven and be with God.  People fail to acknowledge they are sinners and can’t see Heaven or God in their sinful condition.

What happens when an earthly boss says it’s my way or the highway?  According to unsaved man the answer is no I will do it my way and it will be sufficient enough.  Is that the way it works even on earth?  No.  It’s not going work that way later either.

Seek Him and He will show you His way.
