Put The Good To Practice

I am putting down a very popular couple of verses in today’s post.

Philippians 4:6-7 – 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

These are great verses that many of us see a lot.  I love these verses because they are life verses.  We all need to pay attention and obey these verses.

Don’t be jumping just into anything all scatter brain.  Don’t get all worked up or anxious
either.  Take things to the Lord in prayer.  He wants us to.

When we put our trust into God, that’s when the peace comes in.  The protection from God is for our
hearts and minds.  There is stuff in the world and philosophies that really can get a guy off track for a long
time.  Literally years.

Some really great verses follow these two also.

Philippians 4:8-9 –8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

In with the good stuff and out with the bad.  We are in a testing period.  It’s not the only thing we’re in right now, because we are also in a war.  Still this is a time of “what are you going to do?”

What are going to choose?  Whom are you going to choose?

Paul makes it real simple.  Choose what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent,
and praiseworthy.  What do all these things have in common?  THEY’RE GOOD!  They’re not what I choose to do because I can do whatever I want.  These things are how we are supposed to live and they don’t come natural to the sinful nature.

Choose to do good.  Choose to serve God.  This isn’t a time to say, “Oh hey Jesus, you’re my Savior and I’ll never forget that, but now I’m taken care of when I die.  Since that’s the case I can do whatever I want.”

That thinking is talked about a lot in the bible and it never is looked at well at all.  Accepting Jesus is a lifetime commitment.  It’s not a one time at the altar acknowledgment.

Would you want your children treating you like that?  A little bit a lip service and a whole lot of
doing everything that is contrary to the things that are right?

Put into practice the things that are of God.

 

Your Labor In The Lord Is Not In Vain

1 Corinthians 15:58 – 58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Let nothing move you?

As fallen humans we have a tendency to let everything move us from dedicating ourselves from fully working for the Lord.  I look at things in my life that I have allowed in the past to take my time away from the Lord and they are some pretty ridiculous things.  Most of the time those things are pretty ridiculous for everyone.

Nothing is more important than our relationship with the Lord.

I almost can imagine people at the beginning of a straight line they are told to walk forward to finish it.  As soon as people start to move some see interesting things off to the left or the right.
Some stop others start backtracking.  Many get straightened out for a few months and then “oooo, look at that over here.”

The devil for now doesn’t care what line you walk as long as it’s not going towards the Lord.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, is worth taking your time away from your loving Lord.

Nothing you do for Him will ever be in vain.  On the flip side, everything you do for yourself is lost and gone.  Mega television watching that has nothing to do with Him, online poker, etc.  These are just a few things that I have allowed in the past to keep me away from strengthening and serving my Lord
better.   I can’t get those times back, but I can keep it from happening in the future.

What is it in your life?  Today is a new day to make some changes for Him.

Today is a day to get closer to Him.

 

No Other Gospel

Galatians 2:6-10 – 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the
grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or
an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

The world is full of men today trying to preach a different gospel.  They are telling what itching ears are wanting to hear.

Be careful to follow the Word of God.  Changing it is so serious that Paul uses the words, “Let him be eternally condemned.”

God’s Word is nothing to be changing or playing around with.

We know this to be fact. You take nothing physical from this earth with us.  The new body we received will be just that, new.  Everything else is left behind.  The only thing we take with us is our actions.

Did we ask for forgiveness?
Did we make Jesus Lord?
Did we worship God?
Did we live for Him or selfishly for ourselves?
Did we try to love and reach others so they do not perish?
Did we love others as ourselves?
Did we live for God and a good life or did we live for evil?

These are some things we take with us and you can see none of them has to do with worldly success.

Ecclesiastes 5:15 –  15Naked a man comes from his mother’s womb, and as he comes, so he departs.
He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.

So what are we to be working for?  Which kingdom?

 

Do Not Just Merely Listen

James 1:22-25- 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But the man who looks
intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.

Most people do hear it and then pick and choose, take the rest with a grain of salt, and on we go.
I did for years.  The problem is we struggle enough when we try to do what it says.  Putting full-fledged effort into trying to obey the Word leads to many shortfalls.  How much so more when we aren’t really trying?

It is important that we do what the Word says.  As verse 25 states, doing it leads to being blessed.

 

Psalm 5:4-6

Psalm 5:4-6 – 4 You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil;
with you the wicked cannot dwell.

5 The arrogant cannot stand in your presence;
you hate all who do wrong.

6 You destroy those who tell lies;
bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors.

We can’t forget that we serve a just God.  He is so much Love that people forget that He
is also righteous.

This is way we can’t take sin lightly.  We can’t just do it and think it’s no big deal.  We’re going to sin without trying enough already as fallen beings.

Hell is a terrible place and is going to be where the evil, wicked, arrogant, lying, bloodthirsty, and deceitful people who choose not to repent are going.

This world is full of people who have rejected God and have those qualities.  As children of God we
have to separate ourselves.  We can’t take sin lightly, our Lord hates it.

 

Godless Destroy With Their Mouth

Proverbs 11:9 – 9 With his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor,
but through knowledge the righteous escape.

Godless people destroy the people around them by leading them astray.  That’s happening around us in all forms today.  When I was younger I was allowed to watch mostly anything I wanted.  I was influenced by the fun party movies growing up.  They made it look attractive, fun, and exciting.  Most party movies don’t show the terrible consequences that follow shortly after.  They don’t show the dead end.

That’s the way it is with all sin that is being peddled by those who don’t know God or are adverse to Him.  God is very serious though when it comes to those that spew evil from their lips and dissuade others from coming to Him.

Matthew 18:5-7 – 5 “And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

7 “Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!

Knowledge is what will help the righteous escape.  That knowledge is that of the Lord.  Your Bible, God’s Word, is where that knowledge is available.  It’s called the Living Word for a reason.  It isn’t just that it is alive for us today, but because it will allow others to live if we share it and can get them to read it.

With their mouth the godless destroy.  There are words of life and their are words of death.  Choose to study the Word everyday that you can and choose life.

 

Galatians 5:1

Galatians 5:1 – 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Ironic isn’t it.  The devil and evil spirits every day try to convince you that doing your own sinful thing is what makes you free.

As it turns out, freedom comes in the way of accepting Christ and having our sins forgiven.

Satan doesn’t want you to know the real slavery comes from being controlled by your sinful nature.  If you don’t think you’re being controlled by these things try giving them up.

The bigger problem many times isn’t rather you can give them up, but the fact you don’t want to and they are contrary to what the Lord wants.

We need to change our “want to”.  We need to read the Word of God and change it to “what it needs to be.”

We were made by the Lord, so don’t think that those things we are supposed to be are that alien to us.  We just have to get close to God and Christ and then it sinks in.  There’s your missing link.  It isn’t some Neanderthal, but the Holy Spirit which is disconnected until we connect Him back in through Jesus.

Since we are all sinners, it doesn’t come naturally.  It comes by allowing the Holy Spirit in to dwell.

Free yourself from your sinful nature and discover your new eternal destiny with a loving Savior and Lord in Jesus Christ.

 

God Makes The Rules, Yet Sinful Men Won’t Accept It

Deuteronomy 7:1-4 – 1 When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites
and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you— 2 and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally.  Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy. 3 Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, 4 for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods, and the LORD’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.

Almost everyone who doesn’t know God well really struggles with Him sending in the Israelites to destroy nations that are in the Land.

Why was he sending them in?  Because they were evil!

Why were they evil?  Because they were serving other Gods and doing detestable things in God’s sight.

What is evil?  It’s the opposite of what God has made to be good.  God is good.  The further away from
God, the more evil things get.

So who struggles with this?  I’ll tell you.  Arrogant people who will decide themselves what evil is.  They will make that decision and will not be told by anyone what good and evil are.  They believe to go in and
destroy a nation that isn’t serving God is evil.  Who are they to say?

Look what God says in the scripture above.  Do not intermarry with them for they will turn your sons away to serve other Gods.

Then what?  The Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.

WOW!  It looks like God cares and takes this pretty serious.  So those who completely disregard His Word or look at it as if it is evil, it doesn’t look like he will be a big fan of that come judgment time.

God makes the rules.  He God, we creation.  However, with the fall came the prideful arrogant gene.

We Seek To Worship Because That’s How Were Made

Psalm 135:15-18 –  15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by the hands of men.  16 They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see; 17 they have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths.  18 Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.

Why would a man worship an idol?  Why would he worship a stone?  Why would he worship a piece of wood?

Yet people of done it since the fall.  The reason is because we are made to worship.  Some worship others around them or they worship themselves.

Here we have a God that is one million times plus greater than we are and yet people will choose to worship something created that isn’t even made as wonderful as we are.

Make no mistake most people are seeking something to worship.  We may have a lot of wealthy arrogant atheists getting out their message but most of the world is still in the process of searching for something.

Look at Russia.  They were suppressed and atheism was nationally taught.  As soon as missionaries were allowed to go in (actually from all religions) they were very ready to accept something to worship.

We’re made to worship.  So let’s quit chasing after other God’s and our own selfish wants and seek with all our heart our Creator God and King!  Choose the Son Jesus and choose life.
