Competence Is Not In Ourselves

22 Nov

2 Corinthians 3:5 – 5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

I wrote on this a little bit a couple of weeks ago, but it’s so important.  We can do nothing well without God.  Anything good comes from the only One who is Good and that is God alone.

Luke 18:19 – 19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

If we can know that only God is good and we are not competent in doing things without Him, why do we try to do it on our own?

We need to continue to become lesser and allow the Lord to become greater.  The only way to know what He wants in our lives is to read and meditate on the Word.

Double Minded

17 Nov

James 4:8- 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

This one scripture has a lot and in a way that only James can deliver it.

Come near to God and He will come near to you.  That is completely true and anyone that has a relationship with God knows just how much.  He’s right there.  People are constantly putting a divide between themselves and the Lord, but that’s not His fault.  The other thing people do is turn their backs to the Lord so they don’t have to see Him face to face when not living for Him.

Yet He is still their “IF” we want to turn around.  I would like to use the word “WHEN” but that doesn’t always happen.

Which leads to wash your hands you sinners.  No not literally wash them but clean up your act.  How do we do that?  By dying to ourselves and obeying God.

If we die to ourselves and obey God, we are now purifying our hearts.  The only one pure is the Lord.

This leads us to our title double minded.  What is double minded?  It’s trying to have a mind for the Lord and at the same time a mind for our worldly desires and sinful life.  Is that a problem?

1 John 2:15-16 – 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Yep, that’s a problem if you take the Word of God literal and seriously.

Our worldly thoughts drowned out God’s will for our lives.  Out with the bad and in with the good needs to be one’s practice.

Be Joyful Always

16 Nov

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – 16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

When life is joyful, it’s good.

I’ve always told people, if you think you’re happy or if you think you’re unhappy, you’re right.  That’s what you are.  Nobody can make you be one or the other, you choose.

Now I’m not oblivious to the obvious.  Our lives at times get turned upside down from close events near us.  Still how we choose to perceive them is up to us.  We must turn them over to the Lord and still be grateful for all that we have and all which He has done.

If you have Jesus as Lord, you should be happy.  You have what you need.  However, you still choose after that how you will view things.

God wants this for us.  It is His will that we give thanks, pray to him continually and that we be joyful always.

You’re a creature that has been made with a free will.  You don’t have to obey.  You don’t have to love God.  You don’t have to be happy.  However, you won’t have the last say and its God’s will that you do choose correctly and seek Him so you may live in eternity with Him.  For those who don’t, it’s a lake of fire according to His Word.

We Need Repentant Hearts

14 Nov

Romans 2:5-8 – 5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God “will give to each person according to what he has done.” 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

So many warnings to the ones He loves.  We have to stay in the Bible because it is the Word of Life.  We naturally are sinners and when we slip further away from the Word of God we become more self-seeking and stubborn.

We will give an accounting.  That’s a positive for us to dwell on while we still have a chance to serve Him.  We can’t take our eye off the prize.  What would we be taking it off for?

All of us are one day older than we were yesterday.  We are all one day closer to seeing the Lord face to face.

The proof is in the pudding that nothing earthly material is making the trip later when we leave.

We’re going to give an accounting for what we have done.  We’re going to give an accounting for what we didn’t lift a finger to do.

Why are we ignoring that?

We all need to do our best while we still have time.  Let’s all shoot for the words, “Well done good and faithful servant!”

Consider It Lost And Rubbish

10 Nov

Philippians 3:7-9 – 7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

One continues to know the Lord more and more every day that he seeks.  I’ll vouch that every day I keep towards learning and trying to live for the Lord this scripture live 100 percent true.

Test it out if you haven’t.

Fact: Worldly wealth passes away.

Without God’s Grace or Light, We Have No Chance

09 Nov

Literally the Light is the Lord.  There is nothing but total darkness without God.

What I mean by that is no ONE could find God without out God’s help.  That’s why no matter how well someone may be doing in their walk; it’s not by their own power.  Not even a little.

Those individuals ARE being receptive and are opening up so they God may work through them.  We truly
can be nothing but grateful that God came back as the lantern and full light that we can now see spiritually.  Others that choose not to submit to the Lord are blinded by the fog and darkness.

Romans 3:10-12 – 10 As it is written:

“There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands,
no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”

Do you remember before you sought God?  I do.

There was total blindness to what was truth.  I wasn’t lacking in making my own determinations and calling them truth.  However, I still remember being oblivious to God’s Word and how it pertained to everything that was going on around me.  To honestly look back, there was that veil, that fog, that…darkness.  The Light was available I just hadn’t turned towards it or sought it.

No man apart from Jesus is righteous, not one.  We are completely lost without Him.  We need to recognize that and walk with Him constantly and not wander out on our own.

We Are Nothing Without God

08 Nov

2 Corinthians 3:5 –5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.

Without God we are a fallen mess.  We are nothing without God.

We turned our backs and He still supplied a way back by shedding His own blood.

We are nothing without God.

So how do we believe that we are really something?  By the father of lies telling us to be bold, be proud, you’re amazing at what you accomplish on your own.  The sad part of it is, he doesn’t care about you.  He wants you to care about mainly yourself because all he cares about is himself.

Remember one thing.  Christ didn’t come to live for His life on this earth.  He came to do the will of His Father.  He came to die for a sinful rebellious group.

So why do we live so hard for ourselves in this life and consider it Christ-like at all?  It comes from listening to that voice and that voice isn’t matching up with the ever living Word of God.

We are NOTHING without God.  Don’t try to live outside of Him.  It’s like walking outside the security fence amongst a bunch of pit bulls.  They’re going to tear you up if you hang out in their territory and away from your protection.

The Thief Only Comes To Kill Steal And Destroy

01 Nov

John 10:10 – 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

We don’t take it that serious enough.  It’s hard for us to understand why someone would hate us to do everything in his power to destroy us and everything around us.

But Satan does.  He hates us.  There is no love in him.

1 Peter 5:8-9 – 8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

The love is in the one Who made us and died for us.

We need to constantly seek Jesus, be in the Word, because just as it states above there is one who is right there, ready to tell you what you want to hear.

John 8:44 reminds us that the devil is a murderer.  It started in the garden and it continues today.  Eve had the serpent tell her what she wanted to hear at the time.  He was her friend or so she thought.  Turns out
he was a murderer.   This passage also reminds us that when he lies he speaks his native language.

So what is one to do?  We are all to resist him.

How do we do that?  The word repent means to turn away from (sin).  Jesus is standing right there behind us the whole time, we just keep running away so were not facing Him.

They both speak to us.  One’s a liar, a murderer, and hates us.  The Other loves us, gave us life, and asks us
to love and obey Him in return.

We have to do what’s right, resist the devil, and serve our Lord.  It is eternally important that we do.

Doing Good Doesn’t Make Someone A Christian

27 Oct

Colossians 3:17- 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

The world can look at someone who is kind, loving and say wow what a great Christian.  Somewhere along
the line in America that’s what being a Christian is.

Don’t get me wrong, as Christians we are supposed to be loving and kind.  Many who call themselves Christians are not and that’s where part of the confusion is.  However, being a Christian first involves
accepting Jesus Christ as Lord.

I know lots of soft spoken kind, giving people who are not Christians.  They don’t even call themselves one because they don’t want anything to do with God or religion in their eyes.  These people are also very
accepting.  By that I mean you can be anything or do anything under the sun as long as you are not stepping on their toes.  To many that unconfrontational demeanor is being Christian.  Don’t cross me and be accepting of me and that makes you a Christian in my eyes.  Once again that would be incorrect.

The Lord was full of absolutes and confrontation with those who claimed to know the Lord and weren’t living according to the Word of God.

We need to do good and be Christian to be Christians.  We need to make Jesus Lord and then strive to
do what the Bible says we should do.  We should do good because our Lord wants us to do good.  Our Lord is GOOD!  He is Loving!  When we do things we should do them in the name of the Lord and give him
glory.

This is actually good for me.  I find myself trying to do things out of love for the Lord, because personally I realize that I don’t do it enough naturally.  I have to work at it in many areas because it doesn’t just click that I should be thinking of others around me more than me.  I notice that with most people around me also.  We’re all sinful beings and selfishness comes to some of us easier than it does to others.

Make an effort to do it for the Lord.  Anyone can do something for themselves.  We do all the time.  Take a ride out of your comfort zone and bless someone with the love of the Lord today.

God Did Not Call Us To Be Impure

25 Oct

1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 – 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

That inner voice is the Holy Spirit screaming out.  People continue to poor water on the fire and it dies down the flame.

We can’t be ignoring the Holy Spirit or cutting the phone line with God.  When people choose to live impure, they are hurting their relationship with God.  “Rejecting” is the word.  Nothing is more important than our relationship with God.  Never completely give in to your struggle.  Fight!  Don’t keep throwing water or attempting to suffocate the Holy Spirit.
