There Is A Famine In This Country

13 May

No, it isn’t food.  Most of us are hardly starving and I’m as guilty as any making sure of that.

The famine is for the Word of God.

This lack of nutrition leads to spiritual starvation.

Luke 11:27-28 –  27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”

28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

How can we obey it if we don’t know it?  If people don’t know it, how can they be blessed for obeying it?

We need to stay in the Word of God and continue to teach our children as well.

Religion?

06 May

As a Christian the term religion is so generic and impersonal.

Any belief system can be a religion.  You can make your own up.  Get a following and you are religious.

Religion.

You’ll hear people say, I grew up in religious household, or went to a religious school.  Trust me they didn’t get anything out of either the house or the school if that’s how they refer to it.

Here is a little analogy, I love analogies.  Let’s say you’re into favorite football team.  Let’s say it’s the Seattle Seahawks.  You live, you breathe the Seahawks.  It’s what you live for.  Nothing else matters.  No other football team, certainly no other sport.

Someone comes up to you and says, I understand you like sports.  You look at them and say not really, just one.  I really only like one team.  Then they look at you and say, what’s the difference?  Sports is sports isn’t it?  Do people play?  Do you keep score?  You like sports.

No.

Christianity is supposed to be a relationship with the Son of God!

It’s not supposed to be a ritual or a set of rules made by men.

Isaiah 29:13 – 13 The Lord says:
“These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.  Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.

It’s supposed to be a relationship.  People have those with the Lord.  It’s best when it grows and becomes stronger.  In any relationship that exists, how does it become strong?

Dedication, devotion, sacrifice, and love.  In any relationship and that includes friends.

So without it can you have a relationship with Jesus without those things?  Oh you can be saved.  It says whoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved.  One has to believe more than He just existed.  They have to believe He is the Son of God and ask for forgiveness.

The relationship though doesn’t grow automatically because of that.  I’ve met a lot of people.  I don’t have even the slightest relationship with them.

Do you have religion?  Because if you refer to it as religion, you’re missing out on a relationship with the One who loves you, created you, and died for you.  It takes effort and devotion.  When you sincerely do that, He’s right there with the love and He made the sacrifice.

Nahum 1:7

05 May

Nahum 1:7 – 7 The LORD is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,

Jeremiah 17:7 – 7 “But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.”

We as Christians have nothing else to put our trust in, but the Lord.

Others who do put their trust into something else?

Isaiah 42:17 – 17 But those who trust in idols, who say to images, ‘You are our gods,’ will be turned back in utter shame.

Proverbs 11:28 – 28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.

Psalm 146:3 – 3 Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.

Proverbs 28:26 –  26 He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.

An idol can be anything you put in front of the Lord.  Riches are huge stumbling block of today.  Only one God Man can save, the rest cannot.  Those who trust in themselves are in for a lot of heartache.

Let go, let God.  I’ve always enjoyed that saying.  Trust in the Lord.  The rest is all temporary.

Forever!

04 May

Forever!  F-O-R-E-V-E-R!  Do you know how long that is?

There is nothing in your current life that is worth rejecting God and Jesus forever.  There is nothing worth being away from God’s presence or hearing the Lord’s disappointment at the time of truth.  Nothing, absolutely nothing!

Start today.  Get your heart closer in the right direction today.  Eternity is Forever!  You just have to take the time to walk in the right direction.  God meets you much earlier than half way.  He’s there right away.

As the song says, Turn your eyes upon Jesus.  You make the call.  You make the effort.  He’ll do a lot of things for you after that, but making the call and effort is your responsibility.

1Thessalonians 4:16-17 – 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

The World Loves Its Own And Hated Jesus

26 Apr

Have you noticed that when someone touted as a pastor or minister fails, it brings joy to the world?

I’m not saying that when people are unjust they don’t deserve justice.  God has a way of dealing with His own or with those impersonating someone who is one of his own.  I’m talking when a believer slips and is down.  The world absolutely loves it.

Why?

The world loves its own.  The world wants to set the rules.  It doesn’t have any standards right now for anything, except for intolerance.  To be successful in bringing a one world order together it must have everyone respecting everyone else’s ideas or beliefs.  Are we to participate in this?

John 15:18-21 – 18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember the words I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me.

The world hated Jesus.  If the church wants to be loved by the world, and there are many out there trying to be loved by it, they aren’t following in the footsteps of our Lord.  Jesus wasn’t spewing hate like the media today is trying to accuse (narrow-mindedness).  He was spreading truth and the Word of God.  He wasn’t going to walk on eggshells and tell people that He was the Son of God, but you go ahead and believe however you want, I wouldn’t want to offend you.  No He was direct.

John 14:6 –    6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

On one side you got the world.  On the other you have Jesus.  In the middle you have the third group.  Who are they?

Let’s start with the third group in the parable of the sower.

Matthew 13:22- 22 The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.

Then there is the Church of Laodicea.

Revelation 3:15-18 – 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

The world loves its own.  Christ wants us to follow Him, which is the way to eternal life.  You can’t be part of both.  Choose the One who loves you and was willing to die for you.  Choose Christ.

The Passover Lamb

22 Apr

Yes it is that time of the year.  It is almost Resurrection Day.  The church has named it Easter, but the total significance of it was that God sent His one and only Son (one and only) to die for our transgressions once and for all.

Back in Exodus the Jewish people were told by the Lord to slay the lamb and paint the doorpost with its blood.  When they angel of death came looking to take the first born, death passed over that household.  They were covered by the blood.

However, like many things, it was symbolic of the ultimate Passover Lamb that was to come.

Luke 22:15 – 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

The Jews were getting ready to celebrate the ceremonial feast soon, but this particular year, the true Lamb, whose blood is sufficient to cover all that have sinned, was preparing Himself.

John 1:29 – 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

God was preparing the way for salvation from the very beginning.  Only the blood of God could wash away the sins of the world.

That’s the reason Jesus is the only way to the Father.  The blood is the only thing powerful enough to wash away our sins.  It’s not our good intention or good works.

Good intention or good works are as effective of washing away our sins as using dirt to clean a white tee-shirt that is covered in dried tar.

The reason man gets upset about the idea of there being only one way, God’s way, is because man has to have it his way.  Just more rebellion in another area.

Take this weekend and really focus on the great gift that was given about 1980 years ago.  There is no way to know all that our Lord had to go through on our behalf, but we know that it was the most loving thing He could do.

If you haven’t accepted Jesus as Savior and King, I have put a page over to the right column that will help you do so now.

Thank you Jesus and thank you God!  Thank you Holy Spirit for always being there.

A Woman Who Loves And Focuses On The Lord Is A Blessing

21 Apr

Proverbs 31:30 – 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Women really dictate a home.  I see a lot of women who can still get to church rather their husbands make it or not.  I don’t see however, too many men that get there if their wives are staying at home.

A good woman helps build up her husband.  She helps lead from the heart position, while still keeping order in the household.  Solomon had enough examples to look at and had enough of them lead him astray.

Proverbs 12:4 – 4 A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown,
but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

What is a wife that strengthens her husband in his faith, has loving control of her family, and walks with God?  She is the biggest gift a husband could ever ask for.  She is worth more than any other treasure on this earth.

I give glory to my Lord for blessing me with such a wife.  It’s just another way that God has shown me about how much He cares about me.

Psalm 34:1-3

19 Apr

Psalm 34:1-3 –1 I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3 Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.

David was a man after God’s own heart.  Look at the praise he had for the Lord.  The Lord created us and He wants us to love Him.  Do you want the Lord to look at you and say, “There is one of my children that truly has a heart for Me.”  You can be one of those people.  What’s the secret?  The biggest one is to concentrate on the Lord and not yourself all the time.

Walk with Him, talk with Him, and seek Him all the time.  Care about what He cares about.

Praise Him.  Boast about Him with your lips to others.  Glorify His holy name.

Do you think He cares if you do?  Do you think He cares if you don’t?  If you don’t think He cares, then you don’t know the Lord.

David was a man after God’s heart.  What did he do?  He loved God and made Him the focus of His life.

He Has Plans For Us To Prosper And Knows Our Future

15 Apr

Jeremiah 29:11 –11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

My Pastor’s favorite verse.  God Bless you Skip and Gale.  You continue to preach God’s Word right on track, while at the same time the church as a whole in this country is not.

As humans we seem to have our eyes on the present.  The future is as long as I am alive on this earth.  God sees you as an eternal being.  Your future is continuous.  If you’re one of His children that are seeking Him, you have a promise above.  The plan the Lord has for us started before we even knew of our own existence and goes on forever.

That’s powerful.  That means He is looking over us right now and if we choose his sacrifice and salvation, forever and ever.

We can’t get hung up on our wants.  Why?  As sinful creatures, our wants our more than likely not the same as the plan God has for us.

I can tell you the more I concentrate on the Lord and His Word, the more I know He has plans for me.  I know by reading the Word that this life isn’t about me, it’s about the Lord and what we can do to be servants.

Challenging?  Difficult?  It sure is for me in some areas more than others.  The more I study the word of God the more lacking I realize I am.  However, the strength comes from the Lord.  Any strength we can muster needs to be put into Him and then allow Him to work through us.

Worldly prosperity has proven to be a hindrance for most people in their life with the Lord.  Let’s focus on our relationship with the Lord and let the prosperity stem from that.  No one will harm us even on this earth unless the Lord has a plan and says it’s okay.  If He says it’s okay and you’re living for Him, then He has you taken care of ultimately.  One will be rewarded for suffering in His name on this earth.  One example is the martyr’s crown.  Paul also speaks on being rewarded for his suffering in the Lord.

I can tell you that our own selfish ambitions are not part of God’s plan.   I don’t think Paul, the disciples, and the early church had selfish ambitions and if they did, we’d all be in trouble.

We have a hope and a future thanks to our Lord.
